There are some keys to buying winners at an auction, and in my mind here are three of the most important. 1. Don’t fall in love with a name and overpay. We’ve probably all done this, but you’ll kill your bankroll and possible profit margin. Figure out what you think a realistic resale value is and pay up to a predetermined percentage of that. 2. Know what you’re going to do with the domain before you buy it. If you’re going to build a site out then fine. If you’re going to try to flip it, then make sure there are people you can flip it to. A quick Google check never killed anyone. 3. Understand how you can market the name to someone. Trying to say “well, this name sounds cool” isn’t going to whip anyone into a frenzy and get them to throw offers at you. Have a plan Stan.
You can click any of the domain names to be taken directly to their auction page.
My Top 5 Picks
AccessKey.com – quite a few companies that produce these, one of them would probably love to own the domain.
StudentLeasing.com – students are always a good target market, especially when they are too cash poor to buy stuff then leasing makes sense.
DomainStuff.com – domainers love domains with the word domain in it.
WebsiteForum.com – makes sense, a forum dedicated to talking about building websites. A lot of noobs will be here, put some GoDaddy hosting banners on the site and monetize the crowd.
Popunder.org – a lot of popunder products out there, having the exact match domain can give your product instant credibility.
My 5 Picks with Less Than 10 Bidders
Purifiers.net – product domains still do well.
Hungarian.me – a site for the Hungarians out there.
Shopped.org – only 3 bidders so far which is surprising, I’ll have to be number 4.
OilShortage.com – only 3 bidders on this one too… and we all know an oil shortage is coming sooner or later and you can cash in on this domain.
MusicBusiness.net – this will probably sell cheap, nice domain for a blog about the music biz.
My Darkhorse Pick (a domain I think you can snatch cheap and sell for over $1,000)
HotLots.com – I think this can sell for under $100 and can resell for over $1,000. Can be used for an overstock or bulk merchandise type of site.
There’s also a ton of LLL domains going off the board today so as a bonus here they are:
